Discovery Place has a number of really cool exhibits, ranging from physics and geology to archaeology, life sciences, and botany, among many other fascinating fields of science. Their history of flight exhibit was really cool, with a focus on the Wright Brothers' historic flight. |

We tried the balancing beam. It was pretty tricky, started out wide on one end then became narrow at the other! |

We (Alaric and Hawkeye crew) topped off our day with a Discovery Place imax show, "Destiny in Space". It was a cool show, narrated by Leonard Nimoy, about our exploration of the solar system and beyond. Shirley had never seen an imax show before. It was just as exhilarating as the one I saw a few years ago! |

We had an absolutely marvelous time! This is one of the fun things Region One ships can do together in the spirit of science education. I'm hoping we can schedule more such away teams to similar facilities in the future! The crew of several Region One ships, including the Hornet, McNair, and Yorktown, had wanted to come but they had work or transport conflicts. So, a return engagement to the ISS exhibit is planned for sometime in August. Contact Mary Kane for details on this future away team. |
